Teotihuacan Hot Air Balloon Price: What a Flight Actually Costs

A hot air balloon ride in Teotihuacan costs between $2,300 and $3,100 Mexican pesos per person with Volando en Globo — or $8,500 per couple if you want the balloon to yourselves — and $500 MXN per person is all you pay today to hold the seat, with the balance due on flight day.

Teotihuacan hot air balloon price: all 6 packages

The entry price is the Shared Flight at $2,300 MXN per person. The most expensive shared morning is the Complete Shared Flight at $3,100, which is also the one most people buy, because it is the only shared package that picks you up in Mexico City. The Private Flight is priced differently: $8,500 MXN per couple, which is $4,250 per passenger, from 2 to 8 of you. Time in the air is 45 to 60 minutes in every one of them; what changes is what happens on the ground around the flight.

Prices are per person, in Mexican pesos, and they are the operator's own rate — the private flight is the single exception, quoted per couple because that is how it is sold. You pay a $500 MXN per-person deposit to hold the seat and the balance on flight day; the only surcharge that exists is a 3% commission if you settle that balance by card instead of cash. Convert to your currency at the day's exchange rate — we do not publish a fixed USD price because the rate moves and we will not quote a number we cannot honour.

The six packages are built on the same base flight, and the steps between them are small and legible: $150 adds the buffet breakfast, $50 adds the birthday banner with «Las Mañanitas» sung in the balloon, $650 adds round-trip transport from Mexico City. If none of the fixed combinations is yours, Build Your Own Package starts from the $2,300 base flight and you add only what you want. Compare all six side by side on the booking hub with live prices for every package.

What each price buys you on the ground

The flight itself does not change with the price. Every passenger takes off at sunrise and stays in the air 45 to 60 minutes, in balloons from the Pasha and Kubíček factories, with a pilot holding a current AFAC commercial licence. The coffee break before the balloon leaves and the toast when it lands are in all six packages, from the cheapest one up.

The $150 step from the Shared Flight ($2,300) to the Shared Flight with Breakfast ($2,450) is the smallest jump on the list and the one that changes the morning most: you land and sit down to a buffet breakfast instead of driving home hungry.

The $50 step from breakfast ($2,450) to the Shared Birthday Flight ($2,500) is the cheapest decision on this page. It buys the birthday banner and «Las Mañanitas» sung in the balloon, in the air, at sunrise. If somebody in the basket is having a birthday, it is fifty pesos.

The $650 step from breakfast ($2,450) to the Complete Shared Flight ($3,100) is round-trip transport from Mexico City, and it is why that package is the one most people buy: no car, no pre-dawn drive out of the city, no parking. The Private Flight at $8,500 per couple is a different purchase altogether — a balloon with nobody in it but your own group, plus the buffet breakfast, entrance to the archaeological zone and a banner with your own message. The private flight page explains how the group price works: two passengers minimum, eight maximum, $4,250 each.

Add-ons and what they cost

There are three extras and only three, all priced per person: the buffet breakfast at $150, the birthday banner with «Las Mañanitas» sung in the balloon at $50, and round-trip transport from Mexico City at $650. Nothing else is sold on top of a package, at the field or anywhere else.

They are not a separate price list, they are the distance between the packages: $2,300 + $150 is exactly the $2,450 breakfast package, and $2,450 + $650 is exactly the $3,100 one. That is why Build Your Own Package charges the extras at the same rate — assembling the morning yourself never costs more than buying the fixed combination that contains it.

Before you add the transport, check the table above: the Complete Shared Flight already carries it. And if you are driving yourself or sleeping in Teotihuacan the night before, skip it entirely — the balloon port has its own parking, and you can see where you are heading on the balloon port page, 2 km from the Archaeological Zone.

What you pay today and what you pay on flight day

The deposit is $500 MXN per person and it holds the seat. Two people flying the Shared Flight pay $1,000 now and $3,600 on flight day. The deposit is not an extra charge — it is part of the package price, subtracted from the total.

The balance is settled on the morning of the flight, in cash or by card. Paying by card adds a 3% commission on the amount charged that day: on a Shared Flight balance of $1,800 per person, that is $54 extra. Cash costs nothing extra. It is the only surcharge on this page, and it is stated here so you can decide before you arrive.

The rule is the same in every package, so you can do it in your head: the balance is the package price minus the $500 deposit, per person. Deposits are paid by MercadoPago or by SPEI bank transfer. The Google profile lists attention 24 hours a day: phone 775 771 3010 and 771 720 6068, or WhatsApp +52 771 216 9816 — the contact page has every channel and the balloon port address.

Why the number can look different elsewhere

Prices listed on travel marketplaces are set by those platforms, not by us, and they can differ from the rates on this page. We cannot tell you what any given platform charges, and we will not invent a percentage — what we can tell you is that the numbers on this page are the operator's own and go directly to the company flying the balloon.

One more thing the listings rarely say: the balloon port area in the Teotihuacan valley is shared by several operators. A photograph with a sky full of balloons does not mean one company launched them all. Volando en Globo has its own balloon port 2 km from the Archaeological Zone, with its own parking, waiting area and AFAC ground crew, and after six-plus years of operation that field is where every one of our flights lifts off from.

Is a Teotihuacan balloon ride worth it? An honest answer

It is worth $2,300 to $2,500 for most people. You take off in the dark and spend 45 to 60 minutes in the air as the sun comes over the valley. At $2,300 you land, toast and go; from $2,450 up, landing is followed by a buffet breakfast. The Google profile sits at 5.0 stars across 407 reviews, which is the strongest external evidence we can point at — you can judge the view yourself in the photo gallery shot from our own baskets.

It is not worth it if what you are buying is a photograph of yourself directly above the Pyramid of the Sun. The airspace over the Archaeological Zone is restricted and no operator flies over the pyramids — not us, and not any other company. You fly over the valley and you see the pyramids from the air, at distance, in the dawn light. Anyone selling you a flight over the pyramids is selling something that does not exist, at any price.

It is not worth it, at any price, if you cannot board. Passengers must weigh 99 kilos or less. Pregnant travellers do not fly. Neither does anyone who has drunk alcohol in the previous 12 hours, nor people with blood pressure, cardiac or respiratory conditions, recent surgery, or spine or knee problems. Children fly from age 4 or 1.10 m of height, always with an adult, and never carried in an adult's arms. Read the restrictions before you pay a deposit, not after.

And it is not worth the top of the range for everyone. If you already have a car, or you slept in Teotihuacan, paying $650 per person for the transport buys you the ride there and nothing else: the $2,450 package is the same flight and the same breakfast, $650 cheaper. The private flight at $8,500 per couple is worth it for one reason only — you do not want strangers in the basket.

The cheapest way to fly in Teotihuacan

The floor is $2,300 per person on the Shared Flight, the base package with coffee break and landing toast. Same Pasha and Kubíček balloons, the same AFAC-licensed pilots, the same 45 to 60 minutes in the air as the $3,100 package. What you give up is the breakfast and the transport.

Cheapest with breakfast: $2,450. Cheapest way to celebrate a birthday in the air: $2,500. Cheapest way to arrive from Mexico City without a car: $3,100 on the Complete Shared Flight, transport included both ways. Cheapest way to fly two people with nobody else in the basket: the Private Flight at $8,500 per couple.

Three ways to lower the bill: drive yourself and skip the $650 per-person transport, pay the balance in cash and skip the 3% card commission ($54 on a $1,800 balance), and build the package yourself instead of buying a fixed one you only half want. For a couple driving themselves and paying cash, that is $1,300 + $108 = $1,408 not spent.

What happens to your money if the weather says no

Balloons do not take off with sustained wind above 20 km/h, and they do not take off in rain. That is a hard limit, and no amount of money changes it.

If we cancel for weather, you reschedule at no cost and you have 3 months to use the flight. If you cancel with 48 hours or more of notice, you reschedule with no penalty. Either way the package price is not lost — the flight moves.

One consequence worth planning around: book your flight for the first morning of your trip, not the last. If the wind cancels you on day one, there is still a day two.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a hot air balloon ride in Teotihuacan cost?

Between $2,300 and $3,100 MXN per person depending on the package, or $8,500 MXN per couple for a private balloon. The Shared Flight is $2,300, adding the buffet breakfast takes it to $2,450, and the Complete Shared Flight with round-trip transport from Mexico City is $3,100. Every package includes 45 to 60 minutes in the air.

How much is a hot air balloon from Mexico City?

$3,100 MXN per person on the Complete Shared Flight, which includes round-trip transport from Mexico City and the buffet breakfast. If you prefer a package that does not carry transport, it can be added for $650 MXN per person.

Is there a cheap Teotihuacan balloon flight?

Yes: the Shared Flight at $2,300 MXN per person. Same Pasha and Kubíček balloons, same AFAC-licensed pilots and the same 45 to 60 minutes in the air as the more expensive packages. It includes the coffee break and the landing toast — what it does not include is the breakfast or the transport from Mexico City.

Are there fees added on top of the published price?

The published figure is the full price: per person on the shared flights, per couple on the private one. You pay a $500 MXN per-person deposit to hold the seat and the balance on flight day. The only extra that exists is the 3% commission if you pay that balance by card instead of cash.

How do I pay the deposit?

$500 MXN per person by MercadoPago or SPEI bank transfer. The Google profile lists attention 24 hours a day: 775 771 3010, 771 720 6068 or WhatsApp +52 771 216 9816.

Do the balloons fly over the pyramids?

No. The airspace over the Archaeological Zone is restricted and no operator flies over the pyramids. You fly over the valley and see the pyramids from the air at sunrise. Any listing promising a flight above them is describing something that cannot be flown.

Is a Teotihuacan balloon ride worth the money?

For a 45 to 60 minute sunrise flight at $2,300 to $2,500 per person, most travellers say yes — our Google profile is 5.0 stars over 407 reviews. It is not worth it if you cannot meet the restrictions: 99 kilos maximum, no pregnant passengers, no alcohol in the previous 12 hours, minimum age 4 or 1.10 m.

What happens to my money if the flight is cancelled by weather?

No balloon takes off with sustained wind over 20 km/h or in rain. If we cancel, you reschedule at no cost with 3 months to use the flight. If you cancel with 48 hours or more of notice, you reschedule with no penalty.
